This week my boyfriend and I were invited to dinner with Casper and Yukari. Since Casper is a collegue of mine, and his Japanese girlfriend is a quite a good cook, it had to happen sometime... And we were ofcourse very willing to come over, since Yukari also has her own catering/cooking company!
And now, to be honest... I was quite stunned by the food, it was sooo good! Have been to multiple Japanese Teppan Yaki restaurants, but never ate Japanese food like this.
Yukari explained us that Teppan Yaki is actually an American concept, to create a Hollywood effect around it and make it sell better. I'm not saying that Teppan Yaki doesn't taste good (sometimes it does), but knowing that it's not authentic really makes me feel less enthousiastic about that. Same goes for most 'standard' Chinese food here in Holland by the way: most Chinese people don't even eat Babi Pangang or Foo Yong Hai, and we happily think it's their food, ha ha.

So, if you like authentic Japanese food, you can invite Yukari to your home. She's already been invited to cook at restaurants some times and also does home-cooking... and what's more relaxed than giving a dinner party with great food and not having to do anything (exept pay a little)?
