3030: New Photography In China

At Pingmag I spotted this article on new Chinese photography. I don't really read a lot on the web, but this was an article that really drew my attention.

The book 3030: New Photography in China is filled with work that shows us the social and economic changes China has gone through the past 20 years. John Millichap is the one who started this initiative. Some of his words from Pingmag:

“3030″ is also the concept of the book: a selection of 30 photographers under 30. What is distinctive for this younger generation?

The artists themselves changed, their experience of art and their sense of themselves as artists: the new generation seems to be more sophisticated in many ways in their manipulation of images and ideas - simply because they have been more exposed to more ideas, maybe more foreign influences than the previous generation.

The way this blog is set up is very good, if you ask me. The topics also interest me very much, but the setup is very smart!

When you´re subscribing for the email newsletter (possible from every page), you stay within the site and get a thank you message within the same website. No popups or going to another website.

The blog has different writers, and when you´ve read one of the articles, there is a ´5 last articles by´ section. I can image it´s nice to have a clear overview like this, when you like the writer...

And last but not least, at the bottom of every page at Lost at E Minor, you'll see this. It  keeps people reading and clicking through the site.

A blog with good usability

Have you been wanting to start a blog, but don't really know how to set it up in the best way? Be sure to check these 20 usability tips for a blog.

One of the good, but not very surprising, Present your ideas in a visual way, use images to guide your texts. Or, use only images to say what you mean or to show what you'd like others to see... I'm a strong believer of using visuals to say (or at least guide) what I mean.

Well, just check the tips for yourself and see if your (future) blog is good enough ;-) I know that I still have things to improve here... Thanks for the tip, Cas.

Walkthrough coloringbook

A what?? Check this out:

At Pictoplasma.com, I spotted this "Walkthrough coloring book experience" by Boris Hoppek, Neasden Control Centre and Shoboshobo.

How cool is that?! I can imagine you feel like a kid again, when walking through a space like this and are allowed to scribble on the wall. Don't know if that was the case here, but maybe a good idea for something else... I'll definitely take it with me in my imaginary pink backpack. And of course I really really need the book Pictoplasma!

Did you know this artist already? I thought I recognised it when I saw it on a collegue's desktop... But, after a good look I knew really didn't see it before... This art is definitely very cool, so really needed to share these great images - enjoy.
