ther interesting thing I came across at Springwise: Video sharing targetted at the Jewish community.
"Could catering to niche markets be the next big wave in online video sharing?" so Bridgette, one of the blog's authors, asks us. "Yideoz,
a new venture launched for the Jewish community, is banking on it by
offering a forum for uploading and sharing video files that appeal
specifically to this demographic—promoting cultural pride as well as
providing a venue for expressing shared interests."
Interesting to see this. I wonder if this is a specific question you should ask about video sharing sites.
Looking at the whole of internet and new media developments, and all the new initiatives popping up, I personally think it's a general trend that's taking place. More and more you see specific sites for very niche markets.
As you probably know, I work in kids marketing. When you look at this specific market and it's internet intiatives, you see more and more specific interests or activities kids are busy with, being targetted. Some examples that are relevant players in the Netherlands:
- Spele.nl / spelletjes.nl / funnygames.nl - these are all online game sites, with an enormous collection of online arcade games. A lot of kids like playing these kind of games and thus visit these sites. It's easy to get started and just the thing they're looking for.
- Go Supermodel - which is specifically targetted at girls. Girls who want to become a model or dream about this. There are a lot of them, the real girly-girls. But, this is a website/community which is really targetting on a specifc interest of the target audience.
- Kindertent.nl / Website Maker - are site which facilitates kids to make their own website. Also a specific activity for kids on the internet.
I think for general kids website (with lots of different content and online activities), it will become more and more stressing to keep on going strong and maintain high numbers of UV's. This is unless you have a very strong brand and multi media platform to continuously reach the kids...
